Friends of The Library
The Friends are concerned citizens who raise money for books, materials, services, programs and improvements the library cannot provide through municipal funding. Friends promote the use of the library through art exhibits, story hours and events for children, reader service for the home-bound, the annual book sale and community events. They fill the bookstalls at the banks, post offices and train station and give away thousands of paperbacks each year in the stalls. The Friends along with the Town and Country Garden Club do all the landscaping in the front of the library. It is an active group and anyone interested in supporting the Library of the Chathams with their time, talent and resources by joining the Friends should call the Library at 973-635-0603.

- Celebrating 65 years of service-
The following Statement of Purpose for the Library of The Chathams was first read in 1950: "The purpose of the Friends of the Chatham Public Library (as it was called then) is:
1. To maintain an association of those interested in books.
To this end, the Friends is still a group of concerned citizens from
both Chatham Borough and the Township of Chatham who want to help our
joint library give the very best possible service to both communities.
We raise money for books, materials, services, programs, and improvements
which the Library could not otherwise provide from municipal funds. We
assist in promoting better use of the Library with projects such as art
exhibits, home-reader services, storytimes, book sales and community events.
Become a member of the Friends of the Library! Contributions are tax-deductible. And please remember to check with your employer for cultural matching funds. Make checks out to "Friends of The Library". Forms are available at the circulation desk.
Thank you to all our Friends!
